Have Your Employees Move These Items During Your Next Office Move

Blog

When you run a business and are planning a move, it's a good idea to schedule help from a commercial moving service right away. Having professionals on the job will help to take care of the bulk of the move, but it doesn't hurt to ask your employees to move some of their own things. The average employee won't mind moving a handful of items during the move, and doing so will help productivity remain high regardless of the fact that you are moving from one office to another. Here are some specific items that your employees can move on their own.

Desktop Or Laptop Computers

It makes sense to have employees move their own desktop or laptop computers. Laptops are quick and easy to move, of course, and even desktop machines shouldn't be a challenge for most people. While your commercial moving service could certainly take care of this job, doing so would require a fair bit of labeling. For example, if you have 30 employees and each of their computers looks the same, everyone would have to put label on their CPUs, monitors, and peripherals so that everything can be sorted out upon reaching the new office. It's often easier to just have your employees responsible for their own computers.

Personal Desk Items

Have the commercial moving company supply your staff with a number of empty boxes that each staff member can use to pack his or her personal desk items. Like the computers, your moving crew could do this job, but it's quick and easy for each employee to do himself or herself. Things such as family photos and other decorations, as well as pens, pencils, calculators, and other office supplies are all ideal for being tossed in a box and driven to the next office location by each employee.

Kitchen Items

If your office has a kitchen in which your employees keep their own personal food items, it's easy to have each person pack up these things. For example, if someone has a box of granola bars kept in the kitchen cupboard, as well as a soup bowl and soup spoon, this person can pack these items in the same box as his or her desk items for ease. You'd likely rather have your moving service devote its time to the large items, such as desks and filing cabinets, rather than spend time packing such small things that employees can easily pack themselves. Difficult Moves Made Easy

My husband is in the military, and our family has had to move across the country a few times throughout his career. The first time we faced a move, I was so overwhelmed that I felt like I was going to burst! We had accumulated so much "stuff" that I just didn't know what to do with it all. We ended up hiring a moving company, and we put all of the "stuff" we didn't use often in a storage unit. Once I got through the process once, our next couple of moves seemed like a breeze. I know there are other families out there facing their first moves feeling unprepared and overwhelmed, so I decided to make a blog to share moving tips and tips about using storage units wisely. I hope I can help make your move less stressful!
